Asphaltica 2024 - The road to a green future

Loading...

Ammann has long been committed to sustainability. There is, however, a renewed urgency to accelerate such eco-friendly efforts in the global interest. Green roadbuilding is Ammann's goal today and in the future.

To that end, Ammann has unveiled its new sustainable action plan, “A Green Path Forward.” It guides all of us at Ammann. Among our goals:

  • Maximise safe and sustainable production practices when building green plants and machines.

  • Cooperate with suppliers of environmentally friendly packaging and transport services.

  • Develop plants that maximise the use of recycled materials.

  • Provide plants and machines that reduce emissions beyond stated requirements.

  • Expand the use of alternative and environmentally friendly fuels.

  • Use advanced technology to help plants and machines operate efficiently, minimising fuel consumption and emissions.

  • Reduce the volume of oils and other fluids needed for operation, also alleviating disposal requirements.

Sometimes it takes a completely new approach to tackle old and new challenges. Our team of research and development experts has always stood out for its creative and innovative thinking.

ASPHALT-MIXING PLANT SUSTAINABILITY

Hydrogen and wood-dust burners

All burners are designed, built and tested directly at Ammann and are already prepared to use hydrogen.

Alternative fuels

Ammann has developed plants that can burn new renewable energies, and even convert waste into fuel. Biofuels, such as rapeseed and sugar cane, support climate protection and reduce dependence on mineral oil. Tall oil, a waste product of cellulose sulphate production, can also be used.

Ammann biofuel burners can also use more traditional solutions such as natural gas, LPG, light and heavy oil and paraffin.

Ammann Foam

Foam bitumen may be the future of this industry. The Ammann Foam system advances this solution on multiple fronts.

Thanks to this Ammann technology, the bitumen is kept at a low temperature, ensuring a number of benefits. Lower-temperature asphalts reduce VOC and CO₂ emissions. The process also lessens fumes, emissions and odours, and reduces energy consumption due to lower temperatures.

In addition, the mix that is easier to produce, place and compact – and also has longer life.

Complete asphalt granulate recycling solutions

Ammann offers various recycling solutions for customers.

The RAH100 dryer can produce a mix with up to 100% RAP. The RAH60 is a parallel-flow dryer in which up to 60% hot recycled material can be fed. The RAH50 is a central loop dryer that incorporates up to 50% RAP.

Recycling can also take place in plants that do not use these specific dryers. Up to 40% cold recycled material can also be directly fed into the mixer.

MACHINE SUSTAINABILITY

This concept can be found throughout the entire Ammann product line. ECOdrop, a sustainable initiative, is based on maximising engine efficiency to reduce both emissions and fuel costs.

It also involves reconfiguring key systems and components to reduce the operating fluids needed to run them. This translates into lower costs for both acquisition and disposal of fluids. It also provides better access to service points, speeding up maintenance and preventing costly fluid spills.

A closer look at a specific product, such as the new Ammann ARS 130 Single Drum Roller, highlights its key features and benefits. Thanks to ECOdrop, the ARS 130 has recorded reductions of:

  • 22% fuel consumption

  • 26% of hydraulic fluid required

  • 10% of the vibratory system fluid required

ECOdrop also includes the use of alternative fuels, including hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO). This fuel has been approved for all Ammann diesel machines.

HVO reduces gaseous CO₂ emissions by up to 90% at no extra cost. It is a biofuel made from waste such as animal fats or processed vegetable oils. HVO fuel is classified as renewable diesel and is known to have a longer shelf life than other biodiesels.

eMISSION, an environmentally friendly solution, is integrated in Ammann's new products. It enables emission reductions right from the start by integrating efficiency, productivity and reduced maintenance requirements to make construction sites greener and increase contractors' profitability.

The initiative:

  • ReducesCO₂ levels and other impurities

  • Leverages digital technologies to improve product performance and site management

  • Incorporates alternative energy sources, including electricity

LEVERAGING TECHNOLOGY

Ammann has launched a new, highly advanced system for continuous compaction control (CCC) suitable for soil and asphalt compactors. ACEpro takes the essential elements of previous products and enhances them with state-of-the-art technology.

ACEpro can be used in automatic mode, where amplitude and frequency are controlled and adjusted by the machine according to compaction targets, measurements and circumstances. The adjustments ensure optimised transmission of force to the soil, resulting in increased efficiency and quality.

Operators can thus monitor progress in real time and assess when compaction has been achieved. This eliminates unnecessary passes and all the associated costs in terms of fuel, labour and machine wear. ACEpro also prevents over-compaction and any damage caused by it.

PRODUCT RANGE EXTENSION

New ABG pavers

Thanks to the new ABG pavers, Ammann now offers an even more robust product line.

Ammann's new comprehensive range of pavers can cover virtually all paving applications. ABG models are available for both narrow roads and infrastructure construction requiring high productivity and quality of the end product.

All ABG pavers are recognised for their advanced technology, easy operation, reliability and quality. They are designed to minimise fuel consumption and reduce emissions.

Complementary products

Ammann's revamped complementary product range offers a variety of dedicated solutions.

This easily transportable product line is the solution for implementing Ammann innovation in your plant. It is a response to customer requirements regarding certain plant logistics issues, especially process, storage and heating.

Moditek is the ideal solution for the construction of motorways, airport runways, bridges and viaducts, while other complementary products such as Emultek, Heattek and Drumtek meet any other customer-specific requirements.

All these products meet the latest environmental standards and offer numerous advantages.
