Soil and Asphalt Compactors
Black Sea Region of Russia Sees Impressive Growth
Ammann ARS 122 Roller Compacts Foundation for New Roads
LANGENTHAL, Switzerland - The creation of new roads is essential to a newly booming area of Russia. Key to the foundations for the highways is an Ammann ARS 122 Soil Compactor.
Russian contractor JSC <<DSU – 7>> is handling all facets of construction – from soil preparation to asphalt placement and even landscaping. The national project, known as “Safe and High-Quality Roads,” is in the city of Krasnodar in Southern Russia.
Krasnodar is flourishing as citizens search for housing in a region with a Black Sea climate. Businesses are booming in support of these residents, leading to the rise of hotels, warehouses and other associated buildings. And of course, road construction that supports that expansion is a necessity.
“Public and private investments in infrastructure projects in the south of Russia are growing year over year,” said Mikhail Pravda, Director of JSC <<DSU – 7>>, which has been in business for 50 years. “Despite the pandemic, there is a steady development of agriculture and industry going on as well as housing construction.”
JSC <<DSU – 7>> is taking on an enormous amount of work in Krasnodar. The company is participating in the construction of a western bypass and the Krasnodar-Taman Highway; reconstruction of the Krasnodar-Novorossiysk Highway; and the repair and maintenance of 1100 km of roads.
The total of the contracts is valued at 80 million euros.
“In the portfolio of our company, there is a huge number of infrastructure projects related to the building of new roads and the reconstruction of existing ones, which is why we were interested in trying the new 12-tonne Ammann ARS 122 roller,” Pravda said.
The base for the new roads is a 300-mm sand-gravel mixture. “This is a well-stabilised material that is compacted by a 12-tonne roller making four to five passes,” Pravda said.
He describes the new ARS 122 as “the perfect match.”
“The static linear load and vibration of this roller make it possible to achieve the necessary degree of compaction in a minimal number of passes,” Pravda said. “The ARS 122 draws attention for its cost efficiency and simplicity of operation and maintenance.” The Cummins engine is easy to maintain as well.
JSC <<DSU – 7>> purchased an ARS 122 with Ammann Traction Optimizer (ATO). “The button in the cab activates the system, which redistributes the traction force of the roller – increasing it on the wheels and reducing it on the roller,” Pravda said. “This helps when the roller is moving uphill or working on challenging terrain.”
The ARS 122 has been a success from the minute it arrived on the jobsite, Pravda said. “We can clearly say that the new ARS 122, which is factory assembled at Ammann India, has become a welcome addition in terms of quality and efficiency. Moreover, the roller turned out to be attractively priced, which is very important now as the cost of projects is growing almost every month.”
