LANGENTHAL, Switzerland – Why should fleet owners care about operator comfort?

There are many reasons, and all boost profitability. Operators who appreciate their surroundings tend to remain on the company’s payroll, helping ensure business owners have a highly skilled – and high-performing – workforce.

Comfort also leads to quality. For example, intuitive and logically located controls require less reaching by operators. This makes work more comfortable and also enables proper utilisation, ensuring the machine performs as intended. This leads to improved safety benefits, too.

Last but not least, these efforts can lead to reduced fatigue, helping operators stay alert throughout the working shift and thereby increasing productivity, quality and safety.

Ammann understands the value of operator comfort. The most recent line of ARS Soil Compactors reflects Ammann’s commitment to this concept – and to the success of its customers.

Here are some of the features of ARS Soil Compactors that are appreciated by operators – and, in the long run, business owners, too.

Cab

The cab design eliminates the need for “A” pillars, which significantly improves operator visibility to machine edges and surroundings. With the expanded view, operators don’t need to twist and stretch – for hour upon hour – to properly monitor the jobsite.

Sight lines are further enhanced by a full glass windshield/windscreen and side windows.

Access to the cab is effortless as well, with centrally located steps and a convenient support handle that expedites easy entrance and exit.

Hood and engine

Since visibility is essential to comfort, Ammann maximises sight lines by locating the engine in a lower rear position – made possible by the unique no-rear-axle concept. The engine hood’s narrow design also enhances visibility.

The hood is easy to open and close, and all major components can be reached from the ground. Filters are conveniently located for quick monitoring and replacement.

Operator station and display

Effortless machine control is another form of comfort, and Ammann ARS Soil Compactors deliver on this front.

A highly sophisticated operator station showcases great attention to detail. The main control components are intuitively organised and appropriately located on the right armrest. Other switches and controls are also easy to reach.

Operators need monitor only the central machine display, which is integrated into the steering wheel. This enables a quick overview of key functions – including operational parameters, fluid levels, temperatures and oil pressure. The machine control concept is identical on all new soil compactors, helping operators switch seamlessly between models.

Armrest

Intelligent compaction functions are integrated into the armrest. Integrated switches and a travel joystick are optimally positioned.  Easy-to-reach control functions and an emergency stop button improve safety and productivity during operation.

An ergonomic travel joystick with logical layout and centralised main machine functions, such as the vibratory on/off switch, is standard on all machines. Machine speed can be adjusted directly on the travel lever.

All these features make operators more comfortable – and safer and more productive, too. These benefits ultimately add up to improved jobsite profitability.
