Swietelsky relies on the Ammann ABA 210 UniBatch Asphalt Plant for Renovation of M6 Highway in Hungary

Swietelsky Magyarország Kft. was awarded the contract for the renovation of the M6 highway by the M6 Duna highway concession company in February 2023.

The project spanned more than a year and included the section of the M6 between Adony and Dunaújváros, as well as certain sections of the M8. The renovation work covered a total of 32 kilometers, including the complete replacement of the road surface at several intersections and rest areas. The schedule called for 819,000 m² to be installed by the end of October 2024. In addition, the Adony, Kulcs, Dunaújváros-Center, Dunaújváros-Észak, M6-M8 and M8-M6 intersections were completely renovated, as well as the Szentmihályi and Dunaújváros rest stops.

Short timeframe a challenge

Even before construction began, it was clear that the tight schedule could only be met in cooperation with reliable suppliers. For this reason, Thomas Schmid, responsible for plant management at Swietelsky AG, and Michael Eckerstorfer from Ammann Austria, quickly defined the plant specifications. With the ABA 210 UniBatch, Ammann has an ideal system for highway construction sites. It also perfectly met Swietelsky's performance profile for the project in Hungary.

The key data of the plant is:

• 8 x 12m³ dosing units

• Drying drum with 3-substance burner and 210t drying capacity

• Mixing tower with 3.3t mixer and large 86t hot mineral silo supply

• Mixed material silo with bucket and the option to expand

• Cold recycling addition with two feeders

• Bitumen supply prepared for extensions

• Additive additions for liquid and granular aggregates

The plant had to be ready for operation by 1 March 2024 to meet the project deadlines.

ABA UniBatch on steel foundations perfectly suited for use on construction sites

The construction of concrete foundations for asphalt plants is time-consuming and cost-intensive. Steel foundations are an interesting alternative, especially for plants that are assembled for a limited time, including those at construction sites. Unlike concrete foundations, steel foundations can be reused at other locations.

The system was statically designed for quick relocation and to meet all environmental conditions in Hungary.

Low implementation costs thanks to fast assembly and easy road transportation

The ABA UniBatch us designed to be transported without a permit in Europe for fast delivery. The dimensions result in low transportation costs and high flexibility. They are prefabricated, ensuring fast on-site assembly. Individual system modules are pre-wired and tested at the Ammann factory.

Maximized recycling addition with the as1 RAD module

The innovative as1 Control System with the new Argon View user interface from Ammann sets new standards in user-friendliness, efficiency, flexibility and sustainability. For both ecological and economic reasons, the aim is to achieve the maximum recycling addition in compliance with standards.

With the as1 RAD module, the mixing master can quickly and easily adjust the recycling addition rate directly on the as1 visualization without having to change recipes. The as1 ensures consistent mix quality, including transparent logging, via grading curves and bitumen properties stored in the recipe as well as maximum addition rates.
