Ammann Showcases Innovative Light Compaction Equipment at GaLaBau

A heavy-duty, electric-drive plate compactor and a walk-behind roller with advanced steering drew a great deal of attention at the Ammann stand at GaLaBau 2024, held in Nuremberg, Germany, from 11-14 September.

Also making a splash was the Ammann CFS 30 SL Elba, a concrete filling station ideally suited to smaller projects associated with landscaping and gardening.

“It was very rewarding to see the interest level in these new machines and the concrete plant,” said Thilo Ohlraun, Ammann’s Head of Sales in Germany. “These compactors clearly have resonated with customers, and the concrete plant is a great fit for landscaping.”

The Ammann eAPH 70/95 Hydrostatic Vibratory Plate Compactor, a prototype, showed off its compaction power on a thick mat at the stand. The heavy-duty plate utilises the proven triple-shaft exciter system that helps the machine thrive on slopes and cohesive soils. It is the industry’s first e-drive machine in its weight class.

The plate is powered by a 9.2-kWh lithium-ion battery, which charges quickly and easily. The compactor can charge overnight or, if required, over a shorter period – even during the shift.

There was also high interest around the Ammann ARW 65-S Walk-Behind Roller. The new S version features an innovative steering mechanism that enables the walk-behind roller to move right and left using the control handle.

The effortless lateral movement is a significant advantage, as no body weight is required to direct the machine. This improvement keeps operators fresh, eliminates surface irregularities and provides consistency throughout the shift.

The S version retains key features from the previous models, including a high-amplitude setting for work on soils and aggregates. With the flip of a switch, the operator can adjust to a low-amplitude setting and have a roller that is a perfect fit on asphalt and bituminous materials.

Visitors to the stand were introduced to other electric-drive Ammann light compaction equipment. Guests in the rental industry were particularly interested in the machines because of their high productivity and low operating costs.

Light machines that are powered with electricity can bring even more value to the jobsite, but performance can’t be sacrificed either, Ohlraun said.

“We have electric rammers, vibratory plates and a roller that are in no way inferior to their diesel- and petrol-powered siblings in terms of performance and productivity,” he said. “These machines work with the efficiency and quality that Ammann is known for, but more quietly and cleanly.”

Many machines from Ammann’s non-electric lineup were also on display at GaLaBau, a landscaping and gardening show that attracted more than 66,000 visitors from 80 countries.
